The Rivian R3 is our favorite upcoming electric vehicle. This compact model was revealed largely by surprise by Rivian at a press event earlier this year. Whereas R2 is going to be a mid-size SUV, the R3 slots nicely into compact SUV dimensions of approximately 161 inches in length by 60 inches tall. (For reference, the Tesla Model Y is 187 by 64 inches)
We got a chance to spend some close-up time with an R3 prototype at Electrify Expo Long Beach earlier this month and fell in love with the proportions and design. This 300-mile compact SUV is expected to start at around $37,000 and is due to start production in 2026 or 2027.
