Some unfortunate news is coming from Enel X today, as the company announced intention to imminently exit the US and Canadian markets. The subsidiary will cease operations on October 11, 2024 but customer support will stop effective today.
What does it mean for JuiceBox customers?
The JuiceBox 40-amp EV charger is a popular home EV charging product from the company that was purchased by customers, and frequently offered subsidized by electric utilities. The company notes that the physical hardware will continue to function and charge cars as before. However, all “smart” networked functions of the device will stop working because Enel X will pull the mobile apps from the App Store and shut down servers and associated infrastructure. We can already see that their consumer charging site has gone 404 with pages deleted.
If you are an owner of a JuiceBox, and you’ve lowered your amp settings via the app, we suggest you increase it to your maximum safe amp value, because it may no longer be possible to adjust in the future when the apps disappear. With more and more of our appliances and devices relying on cloud features and apps, it’s an unfortunate reality that some features will be lost when the company goes under. You should be okay to continue charging EVs with a JuiceBox, but unfortunately getting customer service or warranty claims will no longer be possible.
